Today is Día de los Muertos, a day when families and friends build ofrendas (altars) decorated with marigolds and candlelight to welcome home the spirits of their loved ones. A world away in CDMX last year, my friends gave my mom a place on theirs. Seeing her photo among the mementos and other beautiful faces meant more than I can say. Grief is just love with nowhere to go, but sometimes, it finds a home in the kindness of the people around us. And in Mexico, they bring grief and love back home today.

This is the season of memento mori (remember you must die). We spend so much time trying to outrun the clock, as if ignoring time will make it slow down. But walking through cemeteries has always been peaceful to me. It’s a quiet space to reflect and remember that this moment, right now, is finite.
We carry our dead with us, not in grief that weighs us down, but as a quiet compass, guiding us home to the life we’re supposed to be living, while we’re living.

I've been quietly loving my transition to digital journaling/scrapbooking. I have dozens of huge physical scrapbooks lining my shelves, but recently I've also been spending my free time just playing around and having creative fun making these digital scrapbooks. While I love a physical junk journaling Sunday afternoons, it's sometimes nice not to have to dig out all my supplies and yet still be able to play around with creative ways to document my travels ❤️ and felt like sharing 🥰
