Known as the “Venice of the North”, Bruges is a medieval paradise replete with sweeping canals, quaint cobblestones alleyways, unrivalled Gothic architecture and an utterly enchanting atmosphere.
Before leaving for Japan, I did an immense amount of research on things to see, places to go and, best of all, where to eat! You hear so much about sushi and ramen that you’re eyes are trained to search them out when walking around the city. But for me, the most surprising dish that we tried over and over was Japanese style curry!
The outer market is where you’ll find over 400 retails shops, grocers and small restaurants, crowded into only a few narrow alleys around the giant fish market.
Shibuya crossing might be one of the most iconic images of Tokyo. From the onset, one might think it’s just a simple intersection, but upon waiting for the red light, things become all the more clear. Traffic stops from all directions, turning the street into a pedestrian, all-way crossing. Suddenly a surge of people starts flowing from each direction, like fish swimming upstream and down. They call this the “scramble”. Shoppers, students, couples, tourists and commuters all rush in all directions.
Cooking classes are so enjoyable both in terms of getting to make delicious food, but also to learn about the history behind those dishes. But Casa Jacaranda offers more than just a cooking class. It’s a whole day of activities, discoveries, learning opportunities and a chance to make new friends.

Having just returned from my trip to Lisbon, I wanted to put pen to paper right away to share all the things I learned when travelling to Portugal for the first time! Lisbon is just as wonderful as you hear it is, the streets are as vibrant as the personalities, and it’s a tremendously laid back and yet bustling city all at the same time. I was so busy leading up to this trip, so I felt more unprepared than usual and as such made a few blunders which I felt like needed to be shared for other, just as unknowing travellers, to learn from.
Known as the Venice of the North, Bruges is a medieval paradise replete with sweeping canals, quaint cobblestones alleyways, unique Gothic architecture and an utterly enchanting atmosphere. Bruges is truly one of my favourite cities to visit. It feels like you could walk endless along the streets and continuously find new discoveries. It’s a fairy-tale like village and I think far too many people just breeze through it on a day-trip from Brussels. I think to truly experience the city at it’s best you need to spend the night and dedicate a good 48 hours to explore every nook and cranny of the city.
